Metros after Costa Rican left winger Pablo Brenes
May 18, 2004

According to the New York Times and confirmed by MetroFanatic, the MetroStars are after Costa Rican left winger Pablo Brenes. Brenes, 21, who plays for Perez Zeledon, is also a member of the Costa Rican Olympic team that will play in Athens this summer. If the Metros do sign him, it will probably be the end of Joey DiGiamarino, who's yet to make an appearance this year. But even though Brenes is out of contract, there is a snag with FIFA's new transfer window, which has closed until August. According to Brenes' agent in the Times, "MLS and US Soccer were working together to resolve the matter with FIFA".
